The Furness help local school
 
“We are so grateful for  this generous donation from The Furness Mark Lodge” was one of the comments of Jenny Redhead who is the head of Roose Community Primary School in Barrow in Furness.

The remark referred to a donation to the school of £500 for the purchase of sporting attire for pupils. It had initially come to the notice of group charity lead Tony Thackrah when it was explained to him that the netball team were in need of tracksuits to wear when they were playing in the winter months.
 
The cause was taken up by The Furness Mark Lodge No 36 and it was agreed that a donation of £500 be made to the school on the occasion of the installation meeting.

Jenny added, “The money not only enabled the school to purchase eight track suits but also a complete football kit. I am sure it will help build team spirit and pride amongst the pupils.”
 
The visit to the school gave some of the pupils an opportunity to model the new kit and on speaking with them they were obviously very pleased with it.
 
Accompanying Tony to the school were The Furness WM Alan Hilton, Geoff Waters and myself.
One of the pupils, Neve, presented Tony with a hand-crafted card of thanks on behalf of Roose School.
